Camphill School Sports Challenge 2016

Welcome to 2016! What more fun for family and friends to join us on a day to explore, excite, and expire in the beautiful Hemel en Aarde Valley along the Onrust River. Hermanus is blessed with some of the most beautiful river and mountain trails in South Africa and Hermanus Adventures has set some new and very exiting trails to explore.[beware, the longer trails are more expiring challenges!]

The Sports Challenge is not a race! It is a day in the bush, a challenge with friends, a great way to meet new friends and to be able to ‘give’ to a very needy cause, Camphill School for children with special educational needs. Come and join us on the ‘farm’, meet the children and their carers, catch a breakfast roll, enjoy the beautiful Hemel en Aarde Valley and become a Camphill School Friend!

The Sport Challenge will also host the weekly Hermanus Park Run and regular Parkies may join in the exploring fun of our custom build rails.

The new routes and trails will be on Google Earth soon, so keep in touch. Visit www.hermanusadventures.co.za for more info.

Safe training!

Paul

NISSAN Trailseeker #3

ts

NISSAN Trailseeker #3, Hemel en Aarde Valley, Hermanus @ Sumaridge Estate dominated by Buys and Stenerhag.

On Sat 8 Oct nearly 1,000 frantic mountain bikers set off on a challenge second to none in the Western Cape.

Riders from around the world took part, enjoying the great new Mtb paradise, created by Hermanus Adventures under the Planning Manager Deon Ferreira and Construction Captain Oom Schalk.

National and international riders enjoyed the various challenging trails, from great fynbos single tracks, mountain ridge jeep track and great downhills to some awesome river bank bush trails. Something for everyone.

2016? Yes, book the date! Saturday 8 October.

Philip Buys and Jennie Stenerhag showed their class as internationally successful racers when they claimed dominant wins in the men and women’s races respectively at the Nissan Trailseeker Hemel & Aarde mountain bike race in Hermanus, Western Cape at the weekend.

Buys, a multiple Cape Epic stage winner and national and continental cross-country champion, dispatched his closest rivals early on during the 65km race and charged to victory in a time of 2 hours 55 minutes 08 seconds. The SCOTT Factory Racing LCB team member was the only rider in the event to break the three-hour mark. Swiss ace, Konny Looser (Wheeler iXS) claimed second place, six minutes later with Adriaan Louw (Contego Swift) rounding out the podium places in 3:03:35.

For Stenerhag, the current Swedish national champion, it was virtually an individual time trial from start to finish. The in-form Ascendis Health rider finished an impressive 17th overall in a time of 3:26:12. Namibian champion, Vera Adrian (BestMed), finished a distant second in3:36:09, with Carmen Buchacher claiming third place another two minutes later.

Close to 1000 mountain bikers tackled the four distances on offer. Strong winds and rain later in the day made the scenic routes more challenging, but the race village at Sumaridge Wine Estate provided the usual Nissan TrailSeeker hospitality and comfort for both spectators and riders once they’d crossed the finish line.

“It was my first time racing in the region and I really enjoyed the trails. After I won the last Gauteng Nissan TrailSeeker event last weekend, I decided to make the most of my form and come down to do this one,” said Philip Buys.

“This is such a fantastic venue and the Advendurance guys always have a knack for finding and linking incredible trails for these events. I can really see the Western Cape Nissan TrailSeeker Series growing.”

“This was my first event back in South Africa and I loved the route. It was really tough. In Sweden we complete a 60-odd kilometre race in just over two hours and today it took me over three hours. This was real mountain biking with nice technical rocky sections, incredible views and fast downhills,” smiled a satisfied Jennie Stenerhag.

We are glad to announce the third event in a new series of four events in the Western Cape that will make up the official Western Cape Marathon Mountain bike series for 2015. The series is targeted at the young, the novice and the family but also for the experienced rider. The routes are aimed to be fun and friendly, no technical and specialised bits that only the pro’s can ride. The series caters for those looking to get into mountain biking as a sport, the weekend riders and the family conscious.

With great TV coverage, good prize money with provincial points up for grabs, the serious riders are drawn in to compete into a festival of mountain biking.

The third event of the series takes place in Hermanus, where in the last two years a whole mountain biking revolutions has taken the little town by storm.

Back when the Cape Epic first came through the town there were just open sand roads that some mountain bikers did training rides on. Now with the help of Wines 2 Whales, Jan van Schalkwyk, Deon Ferreira and other passionate mountain bikers have been building trails that are reshaping the landscape around Hermanus! Making it a mountain biking playground that’s second to none.

Choose the idyllic life with sea, sun, whales and Mountain biking! We’ll bring great meals and snacks, while you share the battle scars and war stories with your mountain bike buddies.

Hermanus Whale Festival Trail Runs – Saturday 11 October 2014 – Update

TrailRun

Again Hermanus Adventures pulled out all stops leading runners on new trails, awesome single tracks and over bsome of the most beautiful river crossings.

The 20km Trail Run was hugely popular and the first man to cross the line, Lieuwe Boonstra in a time of 1hr23, said it is one of the best trail run courses in the Western Cape. A great compliment for the Hermanus Adventures trail building team. Mkandeli Mkhohlakali and Christo du Plessis, both local Hermanus runners, came second (1hr26min) and third (1hr34min) respectively. In the 20km ladies trail run Candice Davison in 1hr35min proved to be just too strong for Ingrid Peens in second place and Rita Terblanche in third.

Ignatius Matema in a dust busting time of 44min55sec took line honours with Petrofski Williams and our local runner Frank Gillion in second and third. Jansie Slabbert in a well-deserved time of 55min34sec was just too fast for Kiara Suttner and Oriole Viljoen. Oriole from Kenya was also the winner of the 6km Cliff Path Night Run.
